Important Changes Coming in Mid-July
The summer of 2019 marks my 4th year of full-time Reiki practice, and it’s been a wonderful adventure building this business to the level it is today. As always, it’s important to reflect on what’s working well and what is not.
First, what is working: YOU! And as such, ME! My clients are not only the engine that actually keeps me in business; the relationships and deep connections we share are one of the great joys of my life. I consider myself blessed every day that I have a job that I love that allows me to help people I grow to love.
Now, what needs changing. I started this one-person business giving clients almost free reign over their booking schedule, because my own was very flexible and business was scant. Honestly, I was trying to give people the flexibility you would expect from a multi-practitioner practice, but as a single practitioner.
As time has passed, I’ve tried to retain that model as much as possible to avoid or reduce wait times for booking appointments. I am not used to the concept of making a client wait more than 7 days for an open slot. Over the course of this learning process I have scaled back hours to give myself a few hours off a week while my children are in school, and 2 nights off per week, but lately that schedule has also become too much. It’s creeping into our family time — because lots of people want to be seen and I have a personal issue with making people wait (#recoveringpeoplepleaser), I’ve been sliding clients into timeslots that were normally our quality family time.
As a result, the current working model is unsustainable. I have made the difficult decision to change my work hours again, because my kids need their mom. It’s an ironic place to find oneself: wanting to work long hours to provide for my children, but then realizing what I actually need to provide most for them and my amazing husband is my presence.
This means that as of July 15th my only working evening of the week will be Monday. However, I will compensate with later working hours on Mondays and earlier additional daytime and weekend hours. (A full schedule is below). I can also offer distance healing sessions, which work just as well as in-person but don’t require either the client or myself to leave our respective houses.
Prior to the change, I will be taking time off from July 3 – 12th.
I am making this choice fully and painfully aware that it might upset or inconvenience some of my current clients. However, I am hopeful that by scheduling in advance, taking advantage of the earlier weekday and weekend hours, and possibly opting for distance healing, each client who wants to be seen can still be seen. I ask for your patience if the wait times for or between appointments grow slightly. I can provide contact information for some of my trusted colleagues in the event that you need to be seen on short notice and I am booked.
Another change is that I am disabling the option to book your own sessions online with me via Neighborhood Acupucture. It’s super convenient but causes congestion in my schedule both at work and home. You can still always contact me via email, contact form, text, phone, Insta DM or Facebook Messenger to book an appointment.
As with all things, this is a trial run. I may make this decision and realize it’s just as unsustainable as devoting every hour of every day to sessions, and then it will change again. I appreciate you being with me as I navigate these waters.
Thank you very much for reading and understanding. I look forward to continuing our important, sacred work together.
With all love and blessings,
Jessica
